Thanks for the inspiration and support from people of various fields, since TWNIC publicized the first edition of Taiwan ISP Annual last year, we decide to collect data of ISP network bandwidth, network structure, and related internet statistics and publish it annually. On the one hand, we want to make various circles be clear about the development of ISP in our nation. On the other hand, by recording statistics related to ISP and important landmarks and activities.

This year's annual is the second year of our editing. Besides the retrospection of the ISP industry in the first year, related statistics, and catalogue of various manufacturers, this year we add the special column for exports, the latest trend of telecom and internet technology, 2003 activity preview and so on. I hope that it will correspondent with the editing goal and users needs. We edit it in the process of collecting various dealers’ data, send IP address, survey on network bandwidth, Find network application, development annual data, and so on, and publish it with the permit of dealers concerned.

Because this year, for the telecom fixed network dealers of the first category, mobile dealers, and internet dealers of the second category, is a hard year. But we can see the sigh of rising from the bottom. With the start of “ challenging 2008” and “eTaiwan” project, the wideband users are more than 2,000,000. The 3G Mobile Internet with IP issued five licenses. The launching of mobile wide band network service would proceed to 3G, after the 2.5G service of GPRS, PHS, DoCoMo and so on. Therefore, with the rapid development of the trend of telecom and internet, the ISP dealers in our nation would create new management and operation, and value-added service and relatively, the challenge will be more dramatic. How to operate forever and be stronger in the latest trend of development, is the biggest challenge gor all ISP dealers.

In addition to the nucleus business of DN registering (including DNS management) and IP distribution, TWNIC would make all efforts to help popularize the application of internet, including the next generation nucleus internet technology, such as IPv6, Enum, SIP/VoIP, IDN. I hope that those new technology can be blended into network service and industry circles in our nation, to boost the development of service business related to internet and network device industry. Then, we can settle a god-quality internet foundation for the next generation.
