The national high-speed computer center is located
at Hsinchu Science-Based Industrial Park. The
national high-speed computer center is not a computer
center for hardware R&D, but a high-speed
computer system is only a computational tool,
primarily carrying out the mission for the high-speed
software research and development, education promotion
and professional training. To match the reputation
of the PC kingdom, Taiwan also invests R&D
on the personal set computer applications, and
cooperates closely with the advanced countries
for projects at the same time, and frequently
shows its R&D accomplishments in international
occasions.
As to the multimedia network applications,
the wideband network connection, the colorful
multimedia application, and the 3D animation
becomes a trend, and the national high-speed
computer center also plays a role as the pioneer,
not only building a wideband academic network
for academic area and research organizations,
but also constructs the experiment platform
for the next-generation network sufficient for
performing special application research. As
to the virtual reality and multimedia application
of the scientific video computation, it does
not only show the scientific data by animation
to everyone, but also acts as the best corporate
decision and management tool.
In the past, the national high-speed computer
center has accumulated plenty of R&D achievements
and experiences, and it will continue to work
to drive the R&D of scientific and industrial
applications and office automation software
as well as the application of network. To cope
with the notational key plan of investing in
the areas of biological technology, micro-electronic
system and environmental and disaster control.
