In 2002, the telecommunication market encountered
its worst situation in the local market in history
due to the economic downfall, and several international
telecommunications companies such as Asia Global
Crossing, Tele Globe, Flag, WCOM, etc were affected
and declared dissolution or filed bankruptcy for
protection. Although we were in such a terrible
time for the telecommunication industry, TPIX
still maintained a certain level in its revenue
in 2002, which is quite close to that for last
year.
However, in view of the difficulties encountered
by the local and foreign major telecommunications
companies, TPIX has to make adjustment to the
company policy ahead of time to increase the
items of products and services, and improve
the profitability. Therefore, TPIX sets its
new positioning as follows:
■TPIX Network Exchange Center: It possesses
a complete and sufficient network connection
and external bandwidth, and is the important
Internet key in Taiwan district.
■TPVX Voice Exchange Center: It is a local and
foreign voice supplier, providing an extremely
reliable and secure telephone exchange center,
and the major customers of the exchange center
include the major international telecommunication
companies, local fixed network companies, local
mobile phone companies, and local ISR companies.
TPVX provides the interconnecting environment
for users to directly connect to the switchboard
of the opposite party and exchange information
with other companies. Each company may also
interchange their telephone business on their
own.
■TPHX network application value-added service
center provides a total solution for the DRS,
an application for setting up a network authentication
(CA) center, a Microsoft AIP platform for “Software
Service” and “Information Service”, and the
virtual IDC service for computer and application
program companies.
■TPCX Sea Cable Exchange Center: TPIX’s engine
room in Taipei gathers the main sea cable system
in Asia including the AGC, Reach, and FLAG optical
sea cables and provides the optical cable interface
to link to places over the world.
■TPWX Wireless Application Center: Aiming at
the prospect of the 3G development, TPIX constructs
a wireless exchange platform that can support
conversion of various message instructions and
protocols, while providing various accessory
tools such as the payment mechanism, certification,
resource management, network surveillance to
attract different content and service providers
and application service provides to directly
use such platform to provide service to different
wireless companies (3G, 2.5G, and PHS, etc.)。
These 5 major centers allow TPIX to show its
special position in the Taiwan telecommunications
market and to play the role as a neutral coordinator
having partners only but without competitors.
