ICANN CEO VISITS TAIWAN
New ICANN CED &President Dr. Stuart Lynn visited Taiwan from July 15-17 as part of the organization's ongoing policy of expanding international contacts. While here, Dr. Lynn held in-depth talks with several organizations that have a vested interest in Internet development. These included the Directorate-General of Telecommunications, Academia Sinica, Chunghwa Telecom and TWNIC. Among the topics discussed were ICANN's recent activities, Internet infrastructure, multi-lingual domain names and IP protocol. On July 17, Dr. Lynn went to the “Howand International”, where he delivered a speech and held face-to-face discussions with members of the local Internet Community. In a packed auditorium, participants enjoyed a lively dialogue on development trends within ICANN and its organizational structure, as well as on the future development of the Internet.
Dr. Lynn has rightly been described as a leading light in the Internet world. After graduating from Oxford University, he went on to study a Ph.D in mathematics at UCLA. The early part of his career was spent at the IBM Science Center in Houston, followed by stints at several leading universities, including UC Berkeley, Rice and Cornell, in the various fields of IT, research and administration. Dr. Lynn also holds a number of important advisory positions and directorships in various Internet-related organizations.
