I. Rules of using bytes with technical restrictions and reserved words on various TWNIC Domain Names

A. Rules on bytes for various domain names

1. Specific English Domain Names:

(1) There is a total of 63 usable characters including 52 byes of English alphabets in upper case and lower case, digits 0-9, and hyphen (-), but the first byte and the last byte must be an alphabet or a number.
(2) Hyphen (-) cannot be the first character or last character, and cannot show up in the third and fourth places at the same time.
(3) Rules of length in bytes: A domain name should have at least 2 bytes and not more than 63 bytes.

2. Chinese Domain Name of Specific Type or Generic Type

(1) In addition to Chinese characters, the 63 usable bytes also include 52 English alphabets in upper and lower cases, digits 0-9, and connectors 63, of which the Chinese numerals in full font cannot be registered.
(2) The hyphen (-) should not be the first byte or the last byte, and also cannot show up in the third and fourth places at the same time.
(3) Rules of length in bytes: A domain name should have at least 4 bytes (at least one Chinese character) and not more than 14 Chinese characters or 28 bytes.
(4) The code of character registered for domain name is restricted to Chinese utf-8.

B. Rules on reserved words for Domain Names

1. Specific English Domain Names: Reserved words are not set.
2. Specific Chinese Domain Names: Refer to the website http://www.twnic.net.tw/DN/res_word/t1.html for reserved words.
3. Generic Chinese Domain Names: Refer to the website http://www.twnic.net.tw/DN/resword/index.html for reserved words.
