Introduction to the Revised Taiwan Network Information Center Website
During the year since its incorporation, TWNIC
has been busy drawing up and implementing plans to revise its English and
Chinese Websites with overhauls on both Website content and structure. The
TWNIC Website with its brand new face is scheduled to be unveiled at the 2001
Internet Trends Seminar Anniversary on 29 March.
Aimed at a
redefined group of target users, these revisions will offer TWNIC Website users
a simple user-friendly environment with easy-to-understand content. What’s
more, the style of our revised Website will be consistent with that of TWNIC as
a whole with our new corporate identification system. The revision plans for
the TWNIC Website are also aimed at giving the TWNIC Website a unique
appearance in the vast stretches of cyberspace and that it will become an
important Website for looking up information.
Definition of Users
TWNIC, an
incorporated non-profit organization, has three central mandates: 1) To promote
and provide information and a database for registration as a neutral party, 2) to
push for opportunities to exchange and cooperate with Internet organizations
from other nations, and 3) promote the widespread use of the Internet. TWNIC
has four major core competencies, including: 1) domain names, 2) IP addresses
and network protocols, 3) Internet security, and 4) international affairs. The
three central mandates and four major core competencies of TWNIC’s website have
defined two main groups of target users. They are: 1) The main group of target
visitors include the domain name registry, registrars, applicants, IP users,
and the Internet industry and 2) a secondary target group of general Internet
users. The clear definition of target groups gives us a direction enabling us
provide the best Website structure and content possible. We have overhauled the
data in and structure of our Website to make looking up information easier.
Structure and Content
The organizational and structural design
of the TWNIC Website is being redesigned with the needs and habits of users in
mind. Search functions for domain names, IP addresses, therefore, have been
moved to the top of the first page of our Chinese website. This not only makes
searching more convenient, it is in keeping with TWNIC’s core services. The content
and structure of the Chinese website are divided into eleven main service
headings—About TWNIC, Domain Name, IP & AS, International Affairs, Internet
Discussion, Symposium, Registrar, DN Dispute Resolution Service Providers,
Websites Linking, TWNIC Announcements, and Activity Announcements. The
TWNIC English website is provided so that non-Chinese speakers can understand
TWNIC operations and the development of the Internet in Taiwan. Therefore, in
English version includes several different categories to induce the development
of Internet in Taiwan.
Conclusion
Putting
“Information at Your Fingertips in the Internet Era” has been our major goal in
overhauling the TWNIC website. We hope that our new website will provide
visitors with faster, easier, and more convenient access to TWNIC information. Internet
technologies have changed the way we communicate. At this the beginning of the
21st century and the celebration of the TWNIC’s first anniversary as
a corporation, we hope that the new English version of our website will put the
information that TWNIC website visitors need at their fingertips.
